Part 1.

Last Sunday thomasgdfrd and I, drove to Switzerland yet again, this time to climb another beautiful 4000er: Dent Blanche at 4357m's.

What on paper seemed like a longish drive with a longer approach to the hut, wasn't quite so bad after all, but perhaps it was the promise of a thunderstorm in the afternoon that made us 'chop chop' uphill.

I'd never been to Cabane La Dent Blanche before so hiking up to it was a nice discovery as it was a very, varied and a beautiful trek in itself.

The mountain was infront us, which was impressive, but also the vast-feeling valley below was picturesque.
Of course, because of this exceptionally hot summer, much of the scenery was burnt yellow and glaciers were brown, but still, the landscape was stunning.

The route started with a small forest, but soon we were in the open winding our way up until we reached the old moraine.
It was boulder hopping and turquoise glacier lakes until the last, cloudy approach on a dry glacier to the hut that we only just saw in the swirling clouds.
And luckily made it in to minutes before the first thunderclap.

The hut was quite a different experience from Valsorey a few days earlier. The warden was stern and a memorable character (but with a smile) and there were strict hut rules to follow, but we all had food in our bellies, friendly company from other climbers and a bed to sleep in in a upstairs dormitory so it was happy days all around.

First time in months, I saw snowflakes coming down outside the hut window, but then, we were at 3500m's and it was cooler up here. And better that than rain.

According to the strict rules we were not allowed to go down for breakfast until 4.15am at the earliest so it felt like we got to have a 'alpine lie-in' too😊.
